Nicholas Cook is a solicitor and a consultant in Birketts LLP, a leading (Legal 500 rated) regional commercial law firm, best known for its commercial property, corporate, shipping, agriculture and private client practice.

With 53 partners and a total staff of 272 Birketts is now one of the largest law firms in East Anglia and is one of the top 100 UK law firms.

Birketts LLP is based in the county towns of Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.

Nicholas was a partner for over 20 years and one of the founders, from its origins in 1985, of Wollastons LLP (which merged with Birketts LLP). Nicholas headed the commercial property department at Wollastons until 2007 together with public sector liaison, business development and liaison with Essex business organisations. He regularly writes and lectures on property law.

Nicholas is a commercial property specialist. His extensive experience includes a particular expertise in commercial leaseholds as well as freehold sale and purchase, property development, options for sale and licensed property.

Nicholas Cook is also qualified, by examination and appointment, to hold the office of a Notary Public (via which he provides internationally recognised notarial legal services as a Public Notary). He is based at the Chelmsford office of Birketts LLP.

Other activities

Nicholas combines a full time consultancy role with Birketts and with his Notarial Practice, together with involvement in a number of external business, charitable and voluntary appointments. He is active in the wider business community and is a National Council member of the Institute of Directors (having previously held the post of Chairman of the Essex Branch for three years).

Nicholas was an Essex board member of the Prince's Trust for over ten years and remains a panel member on its business division. His other roles include: Chairman of the Chelmsford Business Forum, a member of the Essex Business Consortium and an LEA appointed secondary school governor (on which board he is Chairman, having chaired the Corporate Risk and Estates Committee for over 10 years).

Nicholas is a member of the Management Board of the Essex Technology & Innovation Centre and a member of the Essex 2012 Olympic Legacy Business Inward Investment Regeneration Sub-group (in which he is Vice Chairman)
